This book is not what I thought it would be. It is filled with stock photos of cells and doctors. It basically explains cancer in a very basic clinical way and in a manner where kids should know what cancer is to begin with. If you are looking for a book that explains cancer in a way where kids will understand, this is not the book.3/5(6). A cancer is an abnormal growth of cells (usually derived from a single abnormal cell). The cells have lost normal control mechanisms and thus are able to multiply continuously, invade nearby tissues, migrate to distant parts of the body, and promote the growth of new blood vessels from which the cells derive nutrients.

What is Cancer? ¥Cancer is a genetic disease: ÐInherited cancer ÐSporadic cancer ¥Cancer typically involves a change in gene expression/function: ÐQualitative change ÐQuantitative change ¥Any cancer causing genetic alteration typically results in loss of cell growth control. At the World Health Assembly, member states agreed to a goal of reducing rates of premature death from noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) by 25 percent by , starting from a baseline (WHO a, b). The United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals for , announced in September , will include reducing premature death from NCDs, of .

Cancer is when the cells start to grow out of control. The cancer cells keep on growing and making new cells. They crowd out normal cells. This causes problems in the part of the body where the cancer started. Cancer cells can also spread to other parts of the body. For instance, cancer cells in the lung can travel to the bones and grow there. The book ends off with some information shared around cancer survivorship, which is partly based in his own personal experiences with someone close to him, and then some practical information on living with the cancer patient, and end-of-life planning.
